Always try to take the photo in the highest resolution you can (digital photographs). This makes resizing easier, while keeping resolution higher on the final image.
Try to put your subject in front of a neutral background, especially if you are photographing your products. You want your viewer to just focus on the product and not have to work to isolate it. Later it will be easier to "extract" the product and change the background if you want.
Try to use as much natural light as possible, while avoiding glares. Natural light will always give you a better photo, especially with digital cameras, unless you can control the aperture manually
